Malice in Wonderland
Project Highlights
The goal of this project was to work with in a team of 5 to create a haunted attraction based on the word "Literature." We decided to adapt the classic tale of "Alice in Wonderland" with a horror twist.
My primary responsibilities for the project included the developing the overall story, designing the sets of the first half of the attraction (Facade, Library, Alleyway, and Tea Shop) in Unreal Engine, modeling assets in Maya and rendering in Photoshop, working with the team in creating the layout of the attraction, and designing scare actor costumes.
Logline
A small town’s book club awakens an evil curse, transporting mutated versions of characters of the beloved novel Alice in Wonderland into our reality and wreaking havoc across the city. Try to finish their story… before it finishes you.

Synopsis
In the small suburban town of Brookeville, a group of community members host a book club at the local public library every Sunday filled with laughs, friendship, and memories. But when an evil spell inscribed into the back of an old book is read aloud by the group, each member is mutated into murderous variants from the beloved novel Alice in Wonderland and transforms the town into a multidimensional realm of horrors. Can you escape the town of Brookeville alive, or become the main character of your own gruesome tale?
Facade
The first introduction to the experience involves event goers weaving through a variety of switchback lines, before approaching a facade into the experience. Overhead, a banner with the Brookeville book club announcing a classic novel series and Alice in wonderland reading tonight is displayed as a special Halloween night event. Overhead, a moon glows with mysterious yellow eyes, potentially masking a fan favorite character from the novel. Guests walk through the facade toward the library doors.
*The Moon and Banner were modeled in Maya and textured in Photoshop.
Library
Guests walk from the facade into the library entrance. Overturned chairs and tables surround the main seating area, smothered blood and a mysterious fog coming from across the library floor reveal an epicenter of some grave event. A single book remains in the center table which guests walk around. Book club members loudly recite an incantation, their eyes appearing glazed and their bodies motionless, as if some curse had come to life right in front of them, as they were unable to do nothing but witness the horrors they created. Guests head toward bookshelves in back still standing, and a disgruntled female actress in a torn and bloodied blue and white dress warns guests about heading further into the town. “They’re alive,” “They look different… curiouser curiouser," "take me away from here." She is extremely mentally distressed. Guests step behind another bookshelf and exit the back door.
Alleyway
Guests spill into the town of Brookeville into an alleyway behind the library. Fog along the entirety of the floor, curdling screams can be heard in the distance, along with a humming from a backfiring motorcycle. A single body lies in the alley as guests walk by on the right. The Caterpillar, a freakishly large puppet, suffocates a librarian as it wraps around his neck, his body lying lifeless in the insects’ grasp. Guest walks by as the caterpillar stares at them with profound amazement, thirsty and curious. Guests smell tea and coffee as they head towards the back door of the town’s tea shop.

Tea Shop
From the alleyway, guests enter through the back door of the shop into the kitchen, where they are greeted by a strong stench of eggs. Blood everywhere, covering every wall, limbs hang from the ceiling alongside pots and pans. Guests walk between the kitchen island and counter towards the front of shop. As guests get closer, a maniacal laughing and singing can be heard. Guests turn the corner and see the inside of the shop entirely replaced by a long table, made up of all the other tables lined together. At each chair lies a dead community member, with some part missing from them. The end of the table sits a male scare actor dressed as the mad hatter, laughing frighteningly loud, visibly shaking. As guests enter, the hatter stops laughing and stares directly at them; completely silent, emotionless. No laughter or even a grin. Complete silence. Guests walk out the door of the tea shop into the town square.
